SPLORE festival sculpture

Just back from the SPLORE music & arts festival where I exhibited a new light totem project.
The work is called WAYFINDER and explores new territory with the inclusion of a sound-scape.

WAYFINDER's sound-scape is played by the individual/audience member on their Android or iPhone device.
This is done by downloading a free APP, scanning a QR code linking you to Vimeo and playing
an on-line Quicktime movie with a 4.45 minute sound-scape with still frame image.

The QR and phone use encourage audience interaction and exploration.
The over lapping random interplay of the sound-scape created when 2 or more devices are triggered simultaneously means the audience are actually shaping their own experience.
They can even stop,start or pause to create their own timing.

The sound is comprised of two pieces lifted from
Misled Convoy recordings and featuring samples from
recordings by Tinnitus.
Mike Hodgson aka Misled Convoy & Ashley Turner
both being former members of Tinnitus along with Angus McNaughton.
Tinnitus are presently remastering and digitizing a back catalog of these recordings for re-release via the web.

Pablo's Brush with Light

Pablo Picasso snapped playing around with light...
photographs by Gjon Mili.
Gjon Mili was one of a string of early experimenters with Light Painting.
He shot these on asignement for LIFE magazine
in the south of France.
Pablo was so taken by Gjon's work that he set to doing a bunch of his own...

GLEEM FESTIVAL 2005

Yes some time ago now BUT... there's no longer a dedicated web site.
People still ask about it and I frequently need to point people somewhere to understand what it was!
So just to re-cap Gleem 2005 was a curated visual arts festival held at Corban Estate, an old vineyard in Henderson, Waitakere City or West Auckland.
It was produced in conjunction with Waitakere City and Auckland Festival of the Arts: AK05.
It was free and featured over 25 visual art installations & sculptures that explored the use of light. Interactivity was encouraged with the use of triggers that used sound light, imagery etc.
A competition was held with The Wallace Arts Trust as key supporter.

Performance~
Gleem also featured an out door cinema of animated short films, dance performances and live music by Mamaku/Axis of Weevils, Pitch Black, Vivid, D Dub, Sensoree & Stalker Stilt Theatre to name a few.
